CROSS ISLAND - the duo of cellist Suzanne Mueller and pianist Elinor Abrams Zayas - is pleased to once again open the Music for a Sunday Afternoon Concert Series at the Orchard Hill Barn at Old Westbury Gardens. As always, the hour of music will span centuries and styles, seamlessly blending beloved favorites with delightful discoveries.

The program opens with a pair of works by Luise Adolpha LeBeau - a robust Gavotte and a lilting Wiegenlied, or Lullabye.

We then share Once upon More Beautiful Days, a gently nostalgic work by master cellist/pedagogue/ composer David Popper.

Elfentanz, a sprightly, ragtime-infused work by Florence Price, follows.

We then share Felix Mendelssohn's airy yet soulful Song Without Words in D Major.

Next, is Remembering You, which began as a free improvisation by cellist Eugene Friesen and pianist Paul Halley.

André van Haren's A Searching Child, follows.

Next is Cécile Chaminade's beloved Serenade Espagnole.

Two contrasting Southland Sketches by Harry Thacker Burleigh follow

We then share two lovely, evocative Albumleaves by Reinhold Gliere.

The program comes to a rousing close with Béla Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances.

The concert will be at the Orchard Hill Barn - bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on the lawn, or join the performers in the Barn in case of inclement weather or extreme heat. Come early and enjoy the beautiful grounds (including the current special exhibition of lifelike sculptures by Seward Johnson).
