I am pleased to announce the line-up of concerts for the 2019 Music for a Sunday Afternoon concert series at Old Westbury Gardens (previously the West Porch Beech Tree Concert Series).

For this, the16th year of the series, I will be serving as curator, rather than appearing as a performer, due to unavoidable surgery that is sidelining me. But I know that the audience will be in good hands with the performers who will, as always, be presenting an eclectic lineup of great music spanning styles and centuries, and I really hope that you'll turn out to show Old Westbury Gardens how important the series is to you!

Sunday, July 14, 3:00 pm - Redman-Zayas Duo: Clarinetist Josh Redman and pianist Elinor Abrams Zayas  - CROSS ISLAND Minus 1 - continues the tradition of opening the series, performing a program of duets and solos  seamlessly blending beloved favorites and new discoveries..

Sunday, July 21, 3:00 pm - Savage Classical Guitar-sponsored guitarist Christopher Gotzen-Berg makes his second appearance on the series with a program of classical masterpieces, original compositions, and flamenco transcriptions..

Sunday, July 28, 3:00 pm - The Kennedys ably step in for annual series favorites Hungrytown:  In a career that now spans two decades, New York duo Maura and Pete Kennedy have traversed a broad musical landscape, and their music is a unique blend of acoustic-based folk, rock, country, pop and secular gospel, has been described as  ethereal and decidedly upbeat, uplifting and intelligent.

Sunday, August 4, 3:00 pm - Continuing another series tradition,  the McCarron Bros. Jazz Quartet - Paul Carlon on saxophone and flute, Mark McCarron on guitar, Trifon Dimitrov on bass, and returning bro Paul Wells on drums -  closes the season with their  their atmospheric blend of Scofield funk, Cuban, Brazilian, and Miles Davis fusion influences, Frissell-ish country, swing and free jazz
